Robert Eugene Smithey Sr., 64, of Etowah, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at his residence. A native of McMinn County, he was a retired construction worker. A son of the late Robert and Mary Ruth Smithey, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rita McNabb. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Smithey of Etowah; one daughter, Diane Salazar of Athens; three sons, Alan Smithey, Robert "Bobby" Smithey Jr. and Scotty Smithey, all of Etowah; grandchildren, Tony, Sara, Angel, Dylan, Jared, Hunter and Keegan; great-grandchildren, Keith, Savannah and Kaden; one brother, Leon Smithey; and many loved friends. A private family service will be held at a later date. There will be no formal visitation.
