A native of Clover, S. Carolina and long time resident of Etowah, he was a son of the late Frankie Nivens. He was retired from Bowater, and was a veteran of the Korean War (Sergeant United States Army - Tank Commander). He was preceded in death by brothers, Horace Nivens, Bud Nivens and Carl Nivens, all of S. Carolina; and a sister, Mary Nichols of S. Carolina.
Survivors include three sons, Roy Lynn Nivens and Annette McCaslin of Etowah, Phil and Leanne Nivens of Etowah and Bruce Nivens of Etowah; 7 grandchildren, Steven Nivens, Kyle Nivens (Misty), Courtney Watson (Chris), Ashley Lee (Adam), Tabitha Cooley (Chris), Tyler Nivens and Alden Malloy; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Snickers and Sassy.
Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 in the South Chapel with Pastor Scott Cardin and the Rev. David Qualls officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at Cog Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 23rd for the committal service. Steven Nivens, Kyle Nivens, Nolan Gross, Quince Gross, Chris Watson and Chris Cooley will serve as pallbearers.
