Sam Maxwell, 77, of Englewood, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at his residence. A native of Monroe County, he lived in McMinn County all of his adult life. A son of the late Rankin M. and Buna E. Maxwell, he retired as a lineman from Athens Utilities Board. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wheatie Maxwell; four brothers, Wilford, Earl "Gube," James "Peanut" and Charles "Rudd;" and three sisters, Roxie Maude Moses, Alma Rae Hunt and Katherine Sue Plemons. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Maxwell Casteel of Englewood; one sister, Bonnie Gentry of Madisonville; special friends, Norman Casteel and Ricky Brown; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Cardin officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in McMinn Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Mike Gentry, Dallas Maxwell, Jim Maxwell, Steve Maxwell, Gary Plemons, Curt Moses, Jeff Maxwell and Steve Maxwell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Athens Utilities Board co-workers.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bordwine Funeral Home.
