Obituary

Sue Burch, 103, of Etowah, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Etowah Health Care Center.Grandma Sue Burch was an authentic Tennessee mountain mother and homemaker. She was born Nov. 13, 1908, near Mecca Pike in the Conasauga Valley. She was known simply as "Grandma" or "Granny" to all that knew her.She worked for many years on the farm along with raising three daughters and one grandson. She was well known for her great cooking and beautiful quilt making. She was a member of Conasauga Baptist Church.In her 103 years, she had many memories of the hard times and well as the precious times. She had resided at Etowah Health Care Center for the past 10 years, where she was loved by all.A daughter of the late Jacob and Martha Stewart, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Alton Burch; one daughter, Carolyn Howell; two infant sons; two grandsons, Bill Howell and Danny Brumley; and 10 siblings, Jacob Stewart Gentry, Mary Stewart Newman, Myrtle Stewart, Laura Stewart, Bob Stewart, Jacob Stewart, Henry Stewart, Ben Stewart, Jordan Stewart and Tom Stewart.Survivors include three children and their spouses, Lewis and Wanda Montgomery of Florence, Ala., W.C. and Betty Willis of Athens, and Dale and Laverne Holbrook of Etowah; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Anchalee Snyder.Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon Webb officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, and will proceed to Pleasant Grove Cemetery for the 11 a.m. burial.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
