Susan Newman Cole, 68, of Etowah, TN passed away at home on Wednesday, December 27 after spending the holidays with her children and grandchildren. Susan, better known as Ms. Cole to many and Mimi to her five adoring granddaughters, dedicated her life to serving others, including the many hundreds of students who passed through her classroom during her 30 years at Etowah City School.She was a life-long member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and fondly regarded the church family as an extension of her own. She was an exceptional mother, daughter, grandmother, aunt and friend, and the first to appear in a crisis or time of need. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters, particularly during their annual trips to Tybee Island. Susan was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alma Frances and Shad H. Newman Jr., and her brother, Shad H. Newman III (Shaddie). She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son Julian David Cole III (Cap) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, daughter Sally Freeman of Roswell, GA, daughter and son-in-law Brooke and Guy Clark of Independence, KY, and five beloved granddaughters, Madison (Maddie), Gracie, and Rose Freeman, and Ella and Addie Clark. Nephew LTC Burton Newman D.O., his wife Lori and their children, John Henry, Clara, and Anna will miss their Aunt Cookie. She will also be missed by many cousins, none more than her treasured Lynne and Tink.

Cap, Sally, and Brooke would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bonnita Newman for the friendship and support she so selflessly offered their mother. Family will receive friends Saturday, December 30 from 12-2pm, followed by a 2pm service to honor her life at Bordwine Funeral Home in Etowah, TN.In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
