Thomas Eugene "Gene" Buckner, 82, of Englewood, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born July 25, 1929, he was a loving husband and a trader of knives and horses. A son of the late James W. and Nannie Buckner, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Buelah, Idah and Elsie; four brothers, Richard, Amos, Chester and J.L.; and one brother-in-law, Curtis Tucker. Survivors include his wife, Falmar Buckner of Englewood; six brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, Roe and Kitty Tucker, Claude and Janet Tucker, Ronnie and Evone Tucker and Lonnie Tucker, all of Englewood, Bill and Sharleene Tucker of Chattanooga, and Dale and Debbie Tucker of Georgia; five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Rhea and Dwayne Armstrong of Etowah, France White of Georgia, Marie Cry of Cleveland, Ozella Tucker of Chattanooga, and Ruth Tucker of Englewood; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hatcher officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Mars Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Harris, Donnie Harris, Bill Tucker, Dale Tucker and Lonnie Tucker. Tim Buckner will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
