Thomas Lee Roy "T.R." Moates, 88, of Etowah, TN, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022.
T.R. was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, and had been involved in Children's' bus ministry for many years; also, in the van ministry at Goodsprings Baptist Church. He also drove the bus for Fairview Christian Academy for school activities.
He ran a service station and tire service center for many years and cherished employees and customers alike.
T.R. was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean War and served his country for 10 years.
Preceded in death by his son, James Roy Moates; parents, Roy and Emma Moates; sister, Frances Crockett; brother, Johnny Moates.
Survivors include wife, Shirley Moates; special uncle, C.A. Clark; siblings, Don Moates and Lynn Ditmore; daughter, Kim Lay (Dwane); step-children, Chris Taylor (Melanie), Connie Taylor, Donna Lane (Larry); grandchildren, Misty Moates, Crystal Roberts (Elijah); Ian Byars (Jennifer), Taelyr Overbay (Joel), Aaron Taylor (Julie), Lavinnia Smith (Caleb), Hannah Umphrey (Brandon), Josiah Crofts, Benjamin Crofts, Matthew Crofts, Caleb Crofts, Rebekah Crofts, Charis Crofts, Cody Moore (Ciara); great-grandchildren, Jax and Knox Byars, Brylaan and Bryce Flynn, Bryli and Broox Overbay, Gracie Witt, Sadie and William Umphrey, Jayden and Annistyn Crofts, Isaiah Moore, Peyton Norris, Noah Ditmore, Judah and Madi Moore, Brayleigh and Adrian Crofts.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Chris Taylor and Mark Hensley officiating.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27th.
Interment will follow the service in Delano Cemetery with Military Honors.
