Thomas Arnold Wasdin, 88, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Fla.He was a son of the late Hiram Matthew Wasdin and Bessie Jane Abernathy Wasdin in Graham, Bradford County, Fla. He was a grandson of the late Hiram Daniel Wasdin and Ellen Josephine Gill Wasdin, early settlers of Bradford County, Fla., having moved from Pierce County, Ga. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Green Cove Springs, Fla. He was educated in Bradford County Schools and graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1960. He was employed in Jacksonville, Fla., by St. Regis Paper Company and the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility as head of mechanical engineering at NAS Jacksonville. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed deer hunting in Florida and made annual trips to Colorado and Wyoming to hunt. In later years, he enjoyed researching his family history and ancestry.He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ellen Wasdin Andrews; and his first wife, Patricia Kemp Wasdin. Survivors include his wife, Reva Juhl-Wasdin of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; seven children and six spouses, Dianne and Allen Cook of Englewood, Sheila Hohnhorst of Warrenton, Ga., Royce and Dee Richards of Burkley Springs, W.Va., Robert and Joyce Smith of Eaton, Ga., Tanya and Raymond Higginbotham of Valrico, Fla., Gina and Richard Ward of Middleburg, Fla., and Mark and Lori West of Penny Farms, Fla.; grandchildren, Richard Johnston, Justin Johnston, John West, Kaitlin Prom, Amanda Ward, Jarrod Ward, Madison Ward, Stephanie Varnes, Tiffany Bowers and Brad Emery and Josh and Felicia Bowers; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert M. and Mary Wasdin of Middleburg, Fla., and Frank and Carol Wasdin of Orange Park, Fla.; one sister, Thelma Broughton of Graham, Fla.; one brother-in-law, A.T. Andrews of Graham, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Minister Pat Wilson officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in McMinn Memory Gardens with military honors. Pallbearers will be Allen Cook, Josh Bowers, Henry Cook, Dan Cook and Dakota Cook. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
