Tony Joe Land Sr., 70, affectionately known as Tony to all who knew him, left a legacy of love, generosity, and laughter when he passed away on October 27, 2025, in Etowah, TN.
Born on January 17, 1955, in Athens, TN, Tony's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, a passion for fixing things, and a heart that never failed to prioritize the needs of others. Tony's story cannot be told without mentioning his deep love for his family.
Preceded in death by his devoted parents, Johnny and Willie Land; his loving wife of 42 years, Gail Land; and his stepdaughter, Lesia Walker.
Tony's life was a testament to enduring love and resilience. His spirit lives on through his proud son, Tony Land Jr. (April), and his cherished grandsons, Noah and Ethan Land. Also left behind to treasure his memory are his four brothers, Steve, Bill, Paul, Mike, and his five sisters, Brenda, Patricia, Sandra, Teresa, Kathy, along with a host of adoring nieces and nephews. Tony also leaves behind his wife Rita Land, whom he was devoted to.
Tony's career spanned over 35 years at Whirlpool, where his expertise in maintenance was not just a job but a reflection of his innate ability to understand and repair the world around him. His Christian faith was the compass that guided him, and his actions were a living sermon of kindness and compassion. Anyone who knew Tony knew of his remarkable ability to fix anything, whether it was a car, a complex machine at Whirlpool, or a simple home repair. He was not just skilled with his hands; he was an artist of practicality, building his own home with the same care and attention he gave to every aspect of his life. His generosity knew no bounds, as he was always the first to offer help, often before it was even sought, and his selflessness was the hallmark of his character.
Tony's zest for life was infectious. He loved to make people laugh, filling every room with joy and every heart with warmth. His culinary skills were legendary, especially his cakes, which were as sweet as his disposition. A devoted father and grandfather, Tony's heart belonged to his son and grandsons, and he was a pillar of strength and love in their lives.
As a husband, Tony was a partner in the truest sense of the word, sharing a love that was as deep as it was enduring. As a son and brother, his loyalty and care were unwavering. As a friend, he was the one you could count on, the one who would stand by you through thick and thin.
Tony also had a profound love for animals, particularly his cherished chow, who was a constant companion and a source of joy in his life. His love extended to all creatures, great and small, reflecting his understanding that every life is valuable.

Family and friends will assemble at Bordwine Funeral Home, at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 30th and proceed to Etowah Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service with Pastor John Cain officiating.
