Obituary

Tracy E. Gross, 52, of Athens, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at his residence. He was a member of Manilla Chapel Baptist Church and was a son of the late Howell Gross and Margaret Gross Smith. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Robert "Red" Smith. Survivors include his wife, Gail Gross of Athens; one daughter, Lori Gross of Athens; one son, Eric Gross of Athens; a special granddaughter, Jasmine Gross of Athens; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Nolan and Hilda Gross and Quince Gross, all of Etowah, and Butch and Debbie Gross of Indianapolis, Ind.; six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Katie and Larry Wallace of Athens, Kitty and Roe Tucker and Barbara Gross, all of Etowah, Maxine and Bill Roberts of Riceville, and Pam Madden and Jeanette Foster, both of Padukah, Ky.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Linda Grant of Etowah; two sisters-in-law, Jamie Brown of Etowah, and Trisha Grant of Etowah; a special aunt, Zelma Newman of Englewood; several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts; and a special friend and his employer for 32 years, John Gambill of Athens. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Jody Thomas and speaker Larry Wallace officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home and will proceed to Sunrise Cemetery for the 10 a.m. burial.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
