Verlin James Alvin Peals, 87, of Etowah, TN went to be with the Lord at his home on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Verlin was born and raised in Tellico Plains, TN. He was a member of Hillcrest Church in Etowah, TN for many years. Verlin was well known in McMinn and the surrounding counties for his concrete business, Peals Concrete Works that he ran for over 50 years. Verlin loved to fish and was a big fan of the Tennessee Vols and the Atlanta Braves.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lum and Ellen Peals; wife, Bernice Yates Green Peals; step-son, Keith Leyron Green; siblings, Clara Sue Peals, Clifford McKinnely Peals, Eva Mae Peals Myers, Elick Hubert “Red” Peals, Johnnie Marie Peals Hinton-Fletcher, Robbie Emma Peals Boring, Elzie Homer Peals, Alfred Douglas “Doug” Peals, Jerry Richard Peals, Icie Leonard Peals Myers and Charles Edward Peals; special friend, Carolyn Gray; ex-wife, Dean Morrow Peals.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Peals Moore; granddaughter, Rebecca Dean Moore Standridge; step-daughter, Rozena Green Layne (Alvin Layne); brother, Junior Peals (Betty Peals); sister, Delzie Peals Young (Hubert Young); step-grandson, Levi Layne (Sarah Layne); step-great grandchildren, Shepherd and Elizabeth Layne; special nephew, Robby Ellis (Cheryl Ellis).
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2026 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Zach Davis officiating.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at Bordwine Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2026 and proceed to Brown Hill Cemetery for the 12:00 p.m. committal service with Pastor Wayne Trentham officiating.
The family of Verlin Peals would like to thank the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care and Verlin’s wonderful nurse, McKenzie Freeman, for the loving care provided to Verlin over the last few months.
