Vesta Marie Knox Galyon, 79, of Athens, returned to our loving Father in Heaven on Friday, April 29, 2011. A daughter of the late John Sam and Carrie Lee Knox, she was a member of Athens Christian Church and was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Ernest Boyd Galyon; one sister, Kathryn Hinde, formerly of Nevada; three brothers, Carroll Jr. Knox, Jay Knox and Willard Knox, formerly of Texas; and two infant brothers, Charles and Jeffery Knox.
Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Allen and Gail Galyon, Scott Galyon and Ronny Galyon, all of Athens; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna Barnes and Heather and Bryan Lamb, all of Athens, and Sherry and Joe Hixon of Georgia; one sister, Irene Barnett Slack; one sister-in-law, Gloria Knox; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews all of whom loved her dearly; and a dear and longtime friend, Janet Littleton.She was the most precious mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Sunday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Minister Darin Long officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
