Obituary

Violet Trotter Duncan was called to her eternal reward on Friday, September 27, 2024 at her home with family at her bedside.

She was born August 20, 1932 in Crab Orchard, TN to Austin and Clara Waldo. She was a dedicated nurse, with most of her career spent at Woods Memorial Hospital. She also loved gospel music and dancing, but her all-time favorite past time was spoiling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents listed above; her first husband Charles "Red" Trotter; sisters, Marie Falls, Jewell Beeler, and Myrtle Kincaid; brothers, Austin Jr, TJ, and Glen Waldo; infant brother, Ray Waldo; infant sister, Faye Waldo; children, Charlyn Martin, Sandra Newman, and Susan Marshall.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, David Duncan; daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey and Larry Butler, Paulette and Jeff Wise; grandchildren and spouses, Mishea and Kenny Stokes, Chris and Misty Martin, Justin Slack, Monty Evans, Stephanie Evans, Sallie and Wendell Cate, Joey and Kelly Newman, Beth and Ronnie Smith, Nicky Martin, Vallie Goins, Yanci Rickaid, Matthew and Tina Duncan, Amanda Duncan, Allison Duncan, and David Duncan; 40 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; many dear nephews, nieces, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2024 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with grandson, Justin Slack officiating, a poem reading by daughter, Paulette Wise, and prayer by family friend, Dr. Gerald Atkins.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble Tuesday, October 1 at Green Hill Cemetery for the 11:00 a.m. committal service.

Joey Newman, Nicky Martin, Matt Duncan, Ryan Slack, Zack Cate, and Austin Duncan will serve as pallbearers.

Chris Martin and Joe Slack will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the Athens branch of Hospice of Chattanooga for their tender care and support during the last few weeks.
