Wayne W. Wilcox, 88, of Greasy Creek, went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 15, 2010 at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah. A native and lifelong resident of Polk County, he was a son of the late Sam and Emma Hedden Wilcox. He was retired from the State of Tennessee Highway Department. He was a member and deacon of Greasy Creek Baptist Church for 58 years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ruth; one great-grandchild; five brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Beatrice Merrell Wilcox of Greasy Creek; three children and spouses, Leonard and Wilma Pulley, Wendell and Geroldean Campbell, and Wilford and Mary Wilcox, all of Reliance; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maybelle Pearson of Oklahoma, and Carrie Dyre of Cleveland; and a host of friends and relatives. Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 in the South Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Monger and the Rev. Homer Belcher officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20th and proceed to Greasy Creek Cemetery for the 11 a.m. committal service. Roger Long, Tim Shope, Clifford Merrell, Eric Campbell, Al Nation and Shannon Cearley will serve as pallbearers.
