William James Brittain, 83 of Etowah, TN passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at his residence from a longtime illness. He was a longtime resident of Northern VA and a veteran of the US Army.
He retired from Giant Food Inc. after 42 years of service and graduated from Meadville High School in Meadville, PA where he participated in wrestling.
Proceded in death by his mother, Alice E. Schilling; step-father, Fred Wiedaw; step-son, Keith Gochenour.He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 34 blessed years, Rachel M. Brittain of Etowah; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Angela Brittain of Fredrick, MD, Andrew Brittain of Marblehead, MA and Fred Brittain of Sterling, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Esther Brittain and Tom Atelsek of Fredrick, MD; step-son, Todd A. Gochenour of Etowah, TN; sister, Joann Crawford of Easton, PA; brother and sister-in-law, John C. and JoAnne Brittain of Pittsburgh, PA; half brother, David Brittain of Sugarland, TX; brothers-in-law, R.C. Sprinkle, Jr. of Etowah, TN and Jimmy L. Sprinkle, Sr. of Barboursville, VA; 6 grandchildren, Kira, Jillian, Ben, Luke, James and Joseph; several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2016 in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Dr. Joseph Kemper PhD officiating.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the funeral home and proceed to Green Hill Cemetery for the 12:00 noon committal service.
