William "Bill" Elmore Dison Jr., 96, of Etowah, TN formerly of Bessemer, AL passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023.

At an early age, Bill was a lifeguard at West Lake in Bessemer, AL and he enjoyed his time running the rolling skate rink as well. He enlisted in the Mercant Marines at the age of 18 where he served for 5 years as an active duty service member during WWII. During this time he participated in several important missions supporting our military forces during war time including one of his favorite memories and stories to share, navigating his war ship through the Panama Canal. Post-service, he earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in Geology at the University of Alabama. It was during this time that he met his wife, Naomi Marie Garrett Dison and they were married soon after. Following graduation he became a Geo Physicist and relocated to Glasgow, Montana, then to Billings, Montana then to Tupelo, Mississippi, and then to Mobile, Alabama. He spent most of his time working and raising his two children Naomi Renee Dison and James Dupriest Dison.  He finally retired in 1982 as a Metallurgist at U.S. Steel at the Tin Mill. Following retirement he and his wife, Marie, enjoyed traveling the world together.

Throughout his life he found great enjoyment in watching Crimson Tide Football in the fall on Saturdays and rooting for the Braves in the spring.

Everyone loved Bill and he was truly a wonderful person. He was a compassionate family man and someone that you could always count on for support or guidance when needed. He will be greatly missed by those closest to him but never forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his son, James Dupriest Dison; parents, Iva Mae Dupriest Dison and William Elmore Dison Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Marie Garrett Dison; daughter and son-in-law, Naomi Renee Dison McBee and John R. McBee; grandchildren and spouses, Lea Anne Corley and Larry Scott Corley, Jeneé McBee Willingham and Christopher Jordan Willingham, Shea McBee Miller and LCDR Christopher C. Miller; great-grandchildren, Larry Jacob Corley, Jenna Lea Corley, Caroline Marie Miller; great-grandson on the way, Carter James Miller.
