William Hoyt Shamblin, 94 of Etowah, TN went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
A beloved father and husband, he was a lifelong resident of Etowah; and a member of First Baptist Church of Etowah. He was retired from Kern's Bakery after thirty six and a half years of service.
A World War II Veteran, Hoyt enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country. He served as a member of Co. "B" 276 Combat Engineers and as a medical technician in the European Theater, the Rhinelands, Ardennes, Belgium, Holland, France and Germany. Following the end of World War II, Hoyt toured Europe as a member of the U.S. Army's baseball team, playing alongside future Hall-Of-Famer Warren Spahn.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Berniece Kimsey Shamblin; parents, Jesse Alfred Shamblin and Lucy Choate Shamblin; and one sister, Pauline Pace.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William Scott and Ruth Ann Shamblin of Ocoee, TN; one grandson, Christopher Scott Shamblin of Knoxville, TN; several nieces, nephews and their spouses; several cousins and long-time friends.
Masonic Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019 with funeral service to follow in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Allan Lovelace officiating. Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. Interment will follow the service to Green Hill Cemetery.
Kenny Melton, Lester Wheeler, Eddie Perry, Ralph Jones, Gene Choate, Stephen Sliger, Tom Marvin, Tom Reynolds and Johnny Cole will serve as pallbearers.
