Rev. William Buren Frazier Sr., 88, of Athens, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Life Care Center of Athens. Born in Ellijay, Ga., he was a resident of McMinn County for the last 73 years. A son of the late Walter Edwin Sr. and Cora Estelle Meece Frazier, he was a retired Southern Baptist minister and a graduate of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served on the aircraft carrier the USS Wake Island. He was an avid fisherman, rock hound and woodcarver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Rosalie Billmayer Frazier; one brother, Edwin Frazier Jr.; two sisters, Ruby Kirkland and Mary Lou Wilbanks; and one granddaughter, Stacy Chambers.Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Jackie and Don Vandagriff Jr. of Athens, Janie Chambers of Oxford, Miss., and Jeanne Frazier of Athens; one son, Bill Frazier Jr. of Vonore; grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda and Daniel Evans, Katharine Vandagriff, Melissa and Randy McGee, Wendy and Jay Carmean, Bryan Chambers, Lesley Chambers, Lindsey and Jerid Womac and Mathew and Allyson Frazier; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Evans, Will Cofer, Tyler McGee, Brooke McGee, Jane Carmean, Evelyn Carmean, Macy Frazier and Mia Frazier; one brother, Wayne Frazier of Etowah; and one sister and her husband, Jean and David Frazier of Knoxville. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Rev. Frazier's son, Bill Frazier Jr., delivering the eulogy. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in McMinn Memory Gardens with military honors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
