Zelma Elizabeth Mason Newman, 95, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Starr Regional Health Rehab in Etowah, TN.

Zelma was a longtime resident of Mars Hill community and a member of Mars Hill United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, E.C. and Lida Bell Kirkland Mason; husband, James Howard Newman; sons, James Stephen Newman and Gordon Eugene Newman; great grandson, Andrew Howard Land.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Newman and Susan Newman; granddaughters, Sarah Newman, Carrie Land, and Stephanie Hensley; great grandchildren, David Land, USMC, Skylar Hensley and Clara Beth Land; great-great grandson, Cashton Cox; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2023 in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Mars Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Thursday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Mars Hill United Methodist Church at 936 County Road 508 Englewood, TN 37329.
