Zelma Puett, 78 of Etowah, Tn, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, April 17, 2026. Born on May 16, 1947, in Sweetwater, Tennessee, Zelma’s life was a testament to kindness, faith, and dedication to family and church. Zelma was a cherished member of the Coghill Baptist Church.
Zelma was widely known for her compassion and thoughtful nature, particularly in her habit of sending heartfelt cards to family and friends on birthdays and various special occasions, ensuring that loved ones always felt remembered and treasured. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her active involvement in the nursery and bible school at Coghill Baptist Church, where she offered nurturing care and support to children and families alike.
Her family was central to her life. She is lovingly survived by her husband, Danny Puett, and their daughter, Scarlett Poteet. Zelma also leaves behind her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Hugh Denton, along with her sisters-in-law, Neta Puett, Gayle Puett, and Karen Puett. She was a cherished aunt to Lee Denton, Lisa Denton Foxwell, and Zelma Tennille Denton, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Zelma was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Girtha Parris; her father and mother-in-law, Loyd and Blanche Puett; son-in-law, Michael Poteet; and her brothers-in-law, Doyle Puett and Wendell Puett.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in the chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday prior to the service.
Family and friends will assemble at Coghill Baptist Church Cemetery, Wednesday, April 22, 2026, for the 2:00 p.m. committal service.
Zelma will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love she generously gave and the kindness she spread throughout her life.
